Willingness to support diversity within the community

This indicator could include attitudes toward particular minority groups, the level of community diversity, and whether people support the notion of multiculturalism. It may also be reflected in a variety of actions and behaviours, such as acceptance of minority groups in day-to-day community life, support for diversity in employment and the workplace, and provision of community services for minority groups.

Outcomes

Diversion
  • NGOs, communities and influencers (families, friends etc) help divert individuals at risk

Awareness and knowledge of violent extremism and CVE-related programs is important to ensure community members know how they can best assist in tackling violent extremism. A willingness to challenge radical extremist views is important, which is linked to a willingness to support diversity within a community.

Ways to measure

See the Countering Violence Extremism Evaluation Indicator Document [Pp 86-93] for practical suggestions on ways to measure such as survey instruments, example questions and using administrative data.

  • There does not appear to be any existing published measure of willingness to support diversity within the community; however, a number of related measures could be adapted or used as proxies for this indicator. These include attitudes towards community diversity and discrimination against minorities
