Willingness to challenge radical extremist views

Willingness to challenge radical extremist views would include an assessment of both attitudes and behaviours, which could include overall attitudes towards the views propagated by violent extremists. More specifically, it can include self-reported readiness to challenge extremist views when they are encountered, a willingness to speak up when someone expresses radical extremist views online or in public, and behavioural indicators such as whether a person participates in rallies and protests against extremism, or engages with community groups to help communicate an anti-extremist message.

Outcomes

Diversion
  • NGOs, communities and influencers (families, friends etc) help divert individuals at risk

Awareness and knowledge of violent extremism and CVE-related programs is important to ensure community members know how they can best assist in tackling violent extremism. A willingness to challenge radical extremist views is important, which is linked to a willingness to support diversity within a community.
