Understanding of violent extremism issues and strategies to address violent extremism

Knowledge of the challenges associated with violent extremism and of the approaches that can be adopted to address it. These can include staff understanding how clients or their families might react to being part of a CVE initiative, which could impact on program participation and engagement.It is also important that agencies are aware of the range of strategies that can be adopted to address violent extremism, as this will help them to understand what approaches they can consider implementing in their own programs and whether these responses are relevant to tackling violent extremism.

  • Government agencies and CVE stakeholders have sound understanding of violent extremism and the current threat environment

    This outcome is concerned with program design and implementation, encompassing organisational capacity to deliver CVE programs.  It is important that agencies understand the various drivers of violent extremism to ensure that their service addresses a mix of risk factors for radicalising to extremism. How violent extremism and CVE are understood within an agency will have an impact upon their commitment and capacity to deliver initiatives.
