Engagement between communities and government

The processes by which governments and its entities connect with people during the process of policy development and implementation, particularly when they are putting in place initiatives that affect people's neighbourhoods or communities. Also the degree to which people access government services

Outcomes

Resilience
  • Environmental or community conditions that are conducive to violent extremism are reduced to levels that minimise violent extremism behaviour

This outcome is concerned with the level of engagement, feelings of connectedness and commitment towards mainstream society, and the degree of social support an individual experiences. This outcome can also refer to a lack of access to resources and opportunities that would allow people to participate fully in mainstream society. Subjectively, it can relate to whether people perceive themselves to experience this lack of access.

Ways to measure

The processes by which governments and its entities connect with people during the process of policy development and implementation, particularly when they are putting in place initiatives that affect people's neighbourhoods or communities. Also the degree to which people access government services (e.g., Centrelink, Medicare, government-run health services, police), and participate in government-organised initiatives (e.g., facilitated workshops, forums, community cabinets, consultations).
